Foster to Save a Life

Why foster?

Fosters provide a temporary home for pets while they’re awaiting their forever home!

You get an animal companion without the lifetime commitment.

Animals are able to adjust to living in a home, making them more adoptable.

Animals with an illness or injury can heal in a comfortable environment. (We cover all medical costs!)

It frees up space in shelters, so more lives can be saved!

Fostering changes lives

“I foster to show a once homeless, unwanted dog what it means to be loved. It’s so rewarding to see a nervous, shy dog transform into a confident, loving companion. As a foster you have the power to give them the life and loving home they deserve.”

“We foster to take part in reversing a dog’s cruel past. Getting to start their lives over with the love and care they always deserved is an incredibly rewarding and fun experience.

To have a house filled with happy wagging tails, wet noses, and slobbery kisses every day is truly fulfilling and enriches our lives. Fostering is one of those rare opportunities where you get leaps and bounds more than you put in.”

2 types of fostering

Not sure if fostering is right for you? Becoming a temporary foster is the best way to try it out!

foster until adoption

Foster families welcome a dog as their own until it finds a forever family in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Temporary foster (2-4 week commitment)

Reap the benefits of fostering without the long-term commitment. A temporary foster gives a dog a safe place to stay before they’re transported out of state, while they’re recovering from surgery, or just to give them a break from boarding.

 Foster FAQs

  • Most importantly, foster families provide a caring, loving environment. Many of our street dogs have not experienced a life of kindness and fosters teach our dogs to be loved like they deserve. In addition, foster families are responsible for:

    • Providing a safe and clean environment.

    • Provide food, water, toys/enrichment, and shelter.

    • Exercising and socializing as appropriate.

    • Monitoring physical and mental wellbeing.

    • Transporting to/from any necessary vet appointments.

    • Transporting to/from offsite adoption events.

    • Providing photos and videos for marketing.

  • For our committed fosters, we ask that you keep your foster dog until adoption. For temporary fosters, we ask for minimum two-week commitment.

We’re not able to predict how long it will take for your foster dog to be adopted as it is case-specific. But providing regular updates, photos, and videos will increase your foster dog’s chances of being adopted.

  • You provide the love, and we’ll provide everything else, including:

    • Supplies such as food, crates, collars, and leashes.

    • Resources: behavioral, medical, and general help with caring for your foster dog.

    • Dog sitters for when you go out of town.

    • All medical care for the dog as deemed appropriate by our Medical Team.

    • Help with marketing the dog for adoption.

    • Support: as a first-time foster, you’ll likely have questions. We’re just a quick phone call or text away.

  • Yes, but since many of our foster dogs come directly from the streets and other shelters, we cannot always guarantee the temperament or health of any animal.

We do our best to provide our fosters with as much information as possible before they bring the dog into their homes and then work with our fosters to learn more about the dog.

We can move the dog if it turns out not to be a good fit for your home. We just ask that you give the dog time to settle in and adjust. Coming to a house after being on the streets can be an adjustment!

  • Our fosters need to be at least 21 years old.
