Alone in the Dirt, Fighting for Her Life: Linda’s Story
Celebrating 10 years of rescue: Linda (2020)
To celebrate our 10-year anniversary, we're revisiting a favorite rescue story from each year. In 2020 we met Linda, who was on death’s door while giving birth.
Linda labored for two days before we were called
Dying in the dirt
When we found Linda, she had been laboring for two days. She had already delivered several puppies, but something was wrong, and her body was shutting down.
We were her last hope
She was in critical shape; we quickly rushed her into emergency surgery. We learned that a deceased puppy had blocked her bladder, causing a serious infection.
Despite the pain she was in, Linda still nursed her puppies as she was going into surgery and afterwards while on fluids. What a wonderful mom!
Luckily, her owner agreed to surrender Linda and her puppies to us. We were relieved that they were finally safe. But Linda’s story wasn’t over yet.

A family worth waiting for
Linda’s puppies were quickly adopted, but Linda had to patiently wait her turn. She stole the hearts of everyone she met, so we were devastated that she hadn’t received a single adoption application in a year since her rescue.
As it turned out, Linda was just waiting for the perfect family. We are so grateful to Anna and family for loving Linda (now Chiquita).
Her forever family said, “She has brought our sensory-sensitive son out of his shell and given him a reason to smile every single day. He has a lot of medical struggles, and she has helped him to be more confident and less anxious about the hard things he goes through. We see a homeschool buddy, a work-from-home office companion, a Spider-Man, a Batman, a sunflower in full bloom. She asks for almost nothing from us, and in return has given us endless love and support.”
“We decided to rename her Chiquita. Because she is black and brown like a super ripe banana, and you know those are always the sweetest.”

How you can help
None of this is possible without support from people like you. To celebrate 10 years of rescue, our goal is to raise $10,000 through our 10 for 10 Challenge. Every dollar will go directly toward lifesaving veterinary care, food, boarding, training, supplies, and the countless expenses that come with saying “yes” when a dog has nowhere else to turn.
Will you help us continue saving dogs like Linda so they can have the lives they deserve? Your generosity is the reason dogs like Linda get a second chance.
