From Cold Cardboard Box to Warm, Comfy Couch: Susie's Story
Celebrating 10 years of rescue: Susie (2017)
To celebrate our 10-year anniversary, we are featuring a favorite rescue story from each year. For 2017, we revisit Susie, who we raced to get off the streets and out of the cold.
Racing against the cold
Good Samaritans spotted a dog taking shelter in a cardboard box on the side of a road. Temperatures were dropping rapidly, and we couldn’t bear the thought of her spending one more minute outside—especially since she was missing a ton of fur. We knew time was ticking to get her into a safe, warm environment.
Susie’s rescue
She was extremely sweet and came right up to us. She jumped in our car, and we sped away toward a better life! We’re so grateful the Good Samaritians reached out to us for help! We learned that Susie had been in the area for a while and initially lived in an apartment nearby, but the owners were no longer around. We don’t know how Susie ended up in a box on the side of a road, but we knew that’s not where her story was going to end.
Family, at last
Poor Susie’s rescue video tugged at the heartstrings of the George family. They knew their family of four was meant to be five. She was renamed Aasha and officially became a family member in 2018!
“Aasha is so loving, so funny and the BEST addition to our family. Her eyes didn’t lie. She is a good dog—thank goodness we gave her a chance.”
–Aasha’s Forever Family
How you can help
None of this is possible without support from people like you. To celebrate 10 years of rescue, our goal is to raise $10,000 through our 10 for 10 Challenge. Every dollar will go directly toward lifesaving veterinary care, food, boarding, training, supplies, and the countless expenses that come with saying “yes” when a dog has nowhere else to turn.
Will you help us continue saving dogs like Susie to give them the life they deserve? Your generosity is the reason dogs like Susie get a second chance.
