Street Dog Burdened with Massive Tumors: Boomer's Story
Celebrating 10 years of rescue: Boomer (2018)
To celebrate our 10-year anniversary, we are featuring a favorite rescue story from each year. For our 2018 story, we revisit Boomer, a dog who quite literally carried the weight of a difficult life on the streets.
Surviving the streets
It’s hard enough to be a street dog, scavaging for food and battling the sweltering Texas heat. To make matters worse, Boomer was burdened with large, heavy tumors, making it impossible to sleep comfortably.
Boomer came onto our radar, but he was no easy catch. Our volunteer JP spent weeks feeding him and building trust and routine. Finally, JP was able to net Boomer and get him to safety. He would not have survived much longer on the streets on his own!
Extreme medical care
Boomer had surgery to remove the life-threatening tumors and underwent chemotherapy. We’re happy to report that he is now cancer-free and has been adopted by a loving family! Boomer is a reminder that even dogs with extreme medical needs deserve a second chance.
It takes a village
Stories like Boomer’s are a reminder of just how much time, patience, and sheer persistence street rescue requires.
We're endlessly grateful to everyone who fed him, donated to his medical care, and refused to give up on him!
How you can help
None of this is possible without support from people like you. To celebrate 10 years of rescue, our goal is to raise $10,000 through our 10 for 10 Challenge. Every dollar will go directly toward lifesaving veterinary care, food, boarding, training, supplies, and the countless expenses that come with saying “yes” when a dog has nowhere else to turn.
Will you help us continue saving dogs like Boomer to give them the life they deserve? Your generosity is the reason dogs like Boomer get a second chance.
